City of Taipei, Taiwan

Taiwan is a highly-urbanised, mountainous island of almost 24m people, in an active seismic zone in the South China Sea, neighboured by the Republic of China, Japan, the Philippines and South Korea.

Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, has undergone rapid urban growth since the 1960s, and with 2.7m people is one of the most densely-populated urban areas in the world. Situated at the confluence of three major rivers, it is largely surrounded by steeply-rising mountains, including Yangmingshan National Park, the Songshan Hills and the volcanic Qixing Mountain range.

In 2016 the City Government of Taipei and Government of Taiwan commissioned an international panel of experts, including Kerri, to advise on the future of a number of major  strategic sites, including 2 major transport hubs (rail and air).  Onsite site visits, private and public stakeholder discussions, and public workshops and debates, were undertaken in both English and Mandarin Chinese.  Examples of global best practice in TOD and critical success factors in successful major project delivery were used to develop a framework for guiding and measuring stakeholder engagement and successful balanced delivery of initiatives which would enhance the urban environment of Taiwanese cities, in particular Taipei City.

Kerri subsequently hosted further inward visits from delegations from Taiwan in 2016-2019, including from The Real Estate Development Association of Taiwan and the City Government of Taipei to visit and discuss in-depth case studies of relevance in Europe.

Kerri returned to Taipei in 2018 and 2019 to participate in a further series of collaborative workshops with the City Governments of several Taiwanese cities,  Government of Taiwan and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.  She also gave keynote speeches & led seminars at international conferences organised by The Taipei Real Estate Development Association and Federation of Real Estate Development Associations of the Republic of China.
